Ahh…
Well…Friday. And what have we done this week? Hmm. The outside shelter has been rebuilt in uPVC, which should be warmer and safer than having half a door because the bottom half rotted and literally dropped off. For the last 6 months we’ve had a board across the bottom of the door to stop cats etc getting in. Nobody tried to break in either…shows how quiet this area is.
Anyway, thats all double glazed/deadlocked/triplewall roofed now, so the guinea pigs should be warmer, and it’ll be nicer to get to the fridge/freezer.
That was most of Wednesday/Thursday. I also nipped into work for 20 minutes and reinstalled and reconfigured the intranet server that I killed the previous friday (last entry). It seems Abyss has a configurable script timeout..I needed to bump it to 5 minutes to get rid of the HTT500 errors. Bloody SQL.
WHY…WHY, does backing up SQL databases take seconds, yet re-entering it all from a 400k file take 4-5 minutes? Beats me. PHPMyAdmin and the SQL console were a dead heat on that. Oh, on the subject of PHPmyAdmin…the latest version handles importing large data amounts SO much better..heh.
It’s not as if I was using a low spec machine…a P4 extreme edition processor on an equally meaty mainboard with loads of ram and no other concerns! Heyho.
What else did we do? I washed the guinea pigs (still not forgiven me), we visited Jems family..went to Tesco for wine and got refused..see Jems entry on Valenties day for that..and I almost lowered the chav count in the town I was born in..so help me..thats also in that entry of Jems.
I was SO damned close..I even grabbed the gearshift to throw it from “D” to “R” and introduce them to the blunt end of the Astra, and finish the job…but Jem managed to stop me. My Better Half? Probably, yes.
I wish I’d hit the little git in a way…scum sucking weasels the lot of ‘em. I’ve had the Astra on the ramps today to check it over for the source of the “bag of spanners” noise that resulted from that night, and can’t see anything amiss. I’ve also taken the chance to respray the engine frame underside, as it was looking a bit scuffed. Now I want a sump shield..I want to spray “if you can read this, I’ve run you over” on it. Could be funny at MOT time if I did.
On the subject of the Astra..earlier this year, someone nicked a wheeltrim off it..you know…the plastic disk on the wheel. Look at the Astras page, and you’ll see them. Scrapyard scavenging hasn’t been fruitful so far, so today I called my vauxhall Dealer.
“i’d like the price of a wheeltrim for a 1997 astra mk3 with 13 inch wheels please”.
“Certainly sir…thats..£17.06p”.
“A set? great!”
“No Sir…thats for a single one.”
“I’ll get back to you..” *phone down* “Bollocks to THAT.“
