Woohoo!
My new TV Card arrived this morning. I now own a Freecom DVB-T USB freeview card. Looks just like a USB “pen drive”, with the exception that an Aerial goes in one end, and out of the other comes many channels of crystal clear Television and Radio! With the little aerial magentic base attached to the end of the bed, i get about 60 channels. Not too shabby.
I can schedule TV recordings to the hard disk, burn them to DVD, and timeshift the viewer if, say, I need to visit the loo while viewing. All for £40. So..on the next holiday trip, along comes the laptop and this stick..no more shite TV for us! :D
I’ll be intrigued to see if the remote control means that Jem and I can now watch “mock the week” from the bed. That’d be nice.
This week has been a big seesaw…exciting snow, adrenalin overdose road conditions, bright light leading to “coming out of hibernation” from my winter SAD, everthing seemed to be going quite well…then I had a call off Mum on friday to say nan had a fall at home on Tuesday and had been on the floor for 24 hours or so, unable to get up. My family visit often, and she’s safely in hospital right now..but she can’t remember how it happened. She told mum that we were all in her front room..all my aunts/uncles/cousins, that Jem and I had visited, etc..we hadn’t. Hallucinations. She was waiting for “keith” who was married to my aunt..no, thats “Brian”..”Keith” is my uncle, apparently.
She was apparently found “slumped” against the TV in the dark…which is not right. Nan ALWAYS has 2 TVs on..one for her, one for the budgie. Not one was on. Unheard of. It seems to be an infection she’s picked up thats affecting her memory etc…apparently my granddad used to be afflicted the same was sometimes.
I’m not looking forward to getting old…sigh. Now, I’m looking at panic buttons, or some “passive” safety monitoring system to help us “keep an eye”..
heyho..she’s as tough as nails..but it makes you think…oh well..back to watching the “IT Crowd”..
Oh my… How’s your Nan atm?
That’s quite a worry, I hope she’s ok.
Reminds me of a neighbour of K’s, he was an elderly man who lived alone, about 96 I think… He suffered several falls and neighbours had to break-in to help him after realising they hadn’t seen him for days… In typical Brit-fashion, he was denied an alarm and a home-help as he owned his own home (it wasn’t a coucil house) and so would have to pay out of his tiny pension if he wanted help. Needless to say K’s family did their best to help him and cook for him, but it’s disgusting that the authorities/council/health service didn’t do more for him…
I hope you can get the help you need for your Nan
xx
Last I heard, she was stating quite categorically that “I don’t want one of those walking frame things - they make me look old”..so, confused(according to mum) with lucid periods…which is to be fair, quite usual with her..
I’m sure nan owns the house..but we lost patience with council a long time ago. We refitted/rewired/redecorated it for her over the last few years, and fitted a stairlift..looks like we may need to do more.
Oh hell..I just thought..who’s looking after her budgie…? Eek. I should go and look when we go shopping!
Um…
oops. Hit reply too soon. as I was saying..umm..”
