Balls. Sod. Damn.
Remember back to April 12th…I posted “New suspension etc on car”?
Well, 5 months almost, and all that time it’s had a knocking/boinging noise over bumps…and recently it became a knocking over uneven surfaces. I put it down to worn wishbones. The car has been handling like a bit of a boat the last few days, when driving Jem to work etc.
There’s a lot of speedbumps there and back. Anyway..tonight I go to look at the car out of sheer tired “want to beat it with a stick”ness, and pop the bonnet to look under it for anything loose and “knocking”. Nothing.
Looked a bit to the side, and saw a large damp area. Uh-oh. Jacked the car up and whipped the drivers front wheel off. Wishbone/suspension strut/anti-roll bar and half the driveshaft are wet. Oh dear. Whatever it is feels oily. The same sort of oil that seems to be all over the strut internals.
I have a feeling that my “new” suspension has gone pop after a mere 5 months and only a few thousand miles tops. Not good. I’m going to have to try and dig out the receipt etc and go back to the bloke that did it and say “that is not good.”.
It HAD to just wait until I start back to work, and have to take Jem as well, so I can’t take a day or 2 off, didn’t it…
aargh..
About time you brought a proper car oh green one.
Bastard thing… Well, here’s hoping you get it sorted :)
Stu! Balls matey. ;) Just because the old girl is approaching 100k? Remember the Renault 11…300k…and the Astra is MUCH better.
It has brakes, for a start.
Claire - I took it back to the fitter, they jacked it up. 3 of them gave it a good prod, and concluded that yes, the new Shock absorber had failed. It’s back in next Saturday at 9 for a new unit under guarantee.
Now I need to look at the gearbox..I got an “automatic gearbox fault” light on Thursday..it really hates me, this car. I’m 99% sure it’s just the selector switch, and that is confusing the computer.
It’s nothing too bad though. if it happens again, I can drive it as a manual if I pull the computers fuse out.
