Karl’s Asylum ... for the terminally deranged

House!!!

Well, we got the keys. Friday, 2pm we turn up and there is the landlord (Farmer) and his wife (mopping floor) to greet us. Really nice people! He’s OK’d us doing work on the garden, and there’s a fair bit to do…it’s a summer job though.

He took us through the house and showed us everything, and even provided us with some free gas and electric credit, and a kettle. Bonus. I promised him if we were planning any work, we’d inform him, we shook hands and he left. Shortly after that Jems mum and Lou came up, and the gas engineer who’s fitting the fire and servicing the combi-boiler. Between tea and chocolate biscuits, we did some wall filling, painting and cleaning.

That was Friday..Saturday was shopping, then back for more cleaning, wall filling, gap sealing, bath siliconing, painting and garden tidying. I even managed to make the garage door work again!

Sunday was more of the same, as was tonight..

We have gas (Smartcard), electric (Smartcard), water (RV) all sorted out..phone is still to do, although BT have now promised a free of charge “number move” can be done, and it’ll take a mere 24 hours. There is still some gas work to be done, the landlord will be having someone round in a few weeks to redo the bathroom and fit a shower for us, and a better floor, but for the most part the place is ready!

Hence we’re painting all the bedrooms magnolia (has to be done..one is papered, the second painted dark chocolate brown, and the third is pinky purple), and sorting all the plasterwork, curtains, cleaning the carpets and wiping surfaces etc, while waiting for the gas to be recommissioned. Once we have gas heating/cooking/water heating again, we’ll be moving.
