Karl’s Asylum ... for the terminally deranged

My Hobbies

Well, as already mentioned-PC repair and maintenance seems to be a major past-time of mine. I do freelance work as well as my paid job. Keeps me busy, and I’m forever learning new ways to make machines I repair more “user proof”, and faster for me to repair when they go wrong.

I also dabble in vehicle repair. I’ve never bought a “new” car, as I’ve never seen the point. Buy a cheap car, keep the money for important things, and learn to fix things as you break ‘em - thats my outlook. Besides, where’s the fun in a new car? Where’s the risk? I like to push my luck. Also, I know if the worst happens and my car gets rendered unuseable, I can just go out and buy another. A car at the level I pay for them is just a disposable runaround, to tweak snd fiddle with as I see fit.

I also like to get busy with electrical repairs. I strongly disagree with throwing out “broken” things..99% of things that people dispose of can be repaired or re-used. I seem to collect old PCs and end up rebuilding them.

I have a strange habit of suddenly creating random poetry, which I may put on here. I blame my strange logic on reading too many of the excellent Terry Pratchett Discworld books, and on other such notable things as Douglas Adams’ Hitchikers Guide to The Galaxy, The Magic Roundabout, and whatever my mother ate while carrying me.

Any spare seconds I manage to grab I spend with my wonderful partner, Jem. We’ve been together since 2001, through all shit great and small. You can see our story elsewhere on my site, as well as on Jem’s. I can’t honestly picture anyone apart from Jem in my life any more-maybe I’m getting old, but quite apart from anything else I don’t think I’d have the will left to learn another person like I have with Jem.

People have commented before that we are like “an old married couple”. I like the comparison..it’s amazing how many variables can be covered and finalized with a simple “Yes Dear…“.
