Finishing Up
Well managed! Not quite done yet though-we still need to put it all back together!
- Make sure ANY heatsinks on the cards and the processor are fixed on if removed, and equipped with a firmly mounted fan if you removed them.
- Refit any removed data cables to the motherboard. Trust me, it’s easier before you put the cards back in. ;) Make sure you refit them the same way they came off!
- Refit the removed cards carefully. Do it from the middle of the PC, down to the end. Place each card back in the slot you made a note of when removing it, and push down gently on the card to sit it into it’s socket. Make sure it’s completely in, and once you’re sure, refit the screw to hold it to the PC.
- Once you’ve double and triple checked everything, take the PC to it’s home and connect it all up. Yes, that’s right-before you put the cover on. Just keep your fingers clear! The purpose of this is so that you can see that all the fans are working and doing their job! I’ve known them seize up with old age..and any failed ones you see that don’t spin with the PC on need replacing. You can get new fans from your local PC store. It also means you can see if your PC starts up OK before you put the case on, just in case you need to make any changes or recheck your work.
- If that’s all OK, then shut it down, and move it back to the “workshop” area. Now refit the case, and screw all the screws in to secure it. If you feel like a perfectionist, give the case and the front a clean with a damp cloth!
- That done, and you can reconnect the PC, and heave a well earned sigh of relief. Go and make a cuppa..you earned it! Drink it safe in the knowledge that you’ve just made your PC’s life a little more certain. Well done!
