Sharing Files/Work on a Network
Q. How Do I set up a shared folder?
Under Windows 95/98:
1. Select or create a folder that you intend to make available to everyone on your network.
I suggest creating a new one called “shared work” or similar. Once it’sbeen created and named, left click it and choose the “Sharing” option. If that option isn’t there, make sure you have “I want to share my files and folders” selected in the Control Panel->Networks section.
2. Change the option from “Not Shared” to “Shared As”, check the “Shared As” name corresponds with the name you gave the folder and click “OK”.
3. Give it a minute or so-sometimes it takes this time to figure out a new folder is on the network.
4. Click on “Network Neighbourhood” on the desktop, then the name of your PC workgroup (for a simple home network, there will only be 1 in there), and then click on the name of the PC you chose for the machine with the shared folder on it.
You should now see this shared folder. Right click on it, and choose “Copy”, then right click on the windows desktop, and choose “Paste Shortcut”. Now, to get to the Share folder at any time, click on that shortcut on your desktop! That’s it!
